Everything You Need to Know About Our Virtual Race Options

Sign up now. Virtual race options.

A lot has changed in 2020, and like yourself, we’re adapting to the shifts in these uncertain times. One thing that has not changed is our commitment to connect our community and support active lifestyles for kids of all ages in Greater Grand Forks.

With this continued mission in mind, it is with great pleasure that our non-profit race organization is now able to offer virtual options for all of our races in 2020!

The virtual race options offer great swag and a unique medal while still allowing you the opportunity to social distance and run your favorite course.

How will the virtual race option work?

Our virtual race options make it super simple to complete your race on your own anytime in September.

Run Your Way

Register for your virtual race on Race Roster, then pick a day to run your total number of miles between September 1-30 – that’s it!

Running in a relay? Coordinate with your running mates to split the miles however you’d like, whether you do them together or individually, and submit your results any time before September 30th

Please note that virtual races are not Boston Marathon qualifiers and do not receive age group cash prize awards.

Submit Results for Bonus Giveaway

Result reporting will not be required to receive your swag and medal. We do, however, encourage you to share results for a chance to win an extra prize! To enter, after you’ve run your virtual race, submit your results by October 1st, 2020, 1 of 2 ways:

1. Send via email

Send your race results – photos of your race, watch activity tracker selfie or screenshot of your tracking app – to us at director@gfmarathon.com

2. RunKeeper App

We are offering an option to use the RunKeeper app (free) that will be connected to your RaceRoster account for easy tracking and reporting. Watch for full details in emails that we will be sending to all registered runners in September.

Earn bonus entries for a prize by sharing your race results on our social pages! Post photos* of your run, watch selfie or screenshots of your tracking app to one of our social pages. Make sure to use #GFMvirtual and tag our page so we can see them!

*If sharing on Instagram, please create a post to be entered so that it does not expire (i.e. Instagram Stories will not be eligible).

Transfers

Already registered for a race but want to transfer to a virtual one? No problem! Go to your Race Roster account and select the transfer option to switch your event for free. If you have any trouble, please contact the race director at director@gfmarathon.com to get assistance.

The Grand Forks Marathon is now virtual-only. All runners will be transferred to virtual, effective August 31.

Stay Safe

Because the virtual race options allow you to pick your own course at your leisure, we want to remind you to always be safe out there on the roads. Hydration is also extremely important – make sure you have plenty of water with you or coordinate for friends and family to set up their own aid stations along your course for some extra fun and support!

Keep these running safety tips in mind while you’re out rocking your virtual race.

Cheer from a Distance

The distance from friends and family can be tough, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be there to cheer you on during your virtual run! There are awesome options available, like the GFM specific RunKeeper we mentioned above, or the Motigo app which lets loved ones send you personalized messages at the mile marker of their choice to keep you going.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience in these uncertain times and for your continued support of our non-profit race organization. We’re in this together, every step of the run.

Please note that virtual races are not Boston Marathon qualifiers and do not receive age group cash prize awards.
