Our Community – Our Purpose

What is the mission of the Grand Forks Marathon? Since our start in 2012, our mission has been to support active, healthy lifestyles to enhance the quality of life in the Grand Cities, with a special focus on our area youth.

Did you know that by participating in one of our races you are supporting local student athletes?

With the help of each individual who signs up for our races, we accomplish this by removing financial barriers to help youth stay active through donating our net proceeds to these three awesome local 501(c)3 charities:

Grand Forks Public Schools Foundation for Education – Wild Hog Fund

Created by the Grand Forks Marathon, this fund was established to help provide students of low-income families with necessary supplies – shoes, equipment or money for food during away games, meets, etc. – so they can participate in extra-curricular activities at school.

Grand Forks YMCA - Partner of Youth Scholarships

This program at our local chapter of the YMCA promotes kids being involved in the active camps they offer, as well as resources for youth who may not be able to afford joining. These great programs foster better health and positive behavior by cultivating values, skills and relationships.

Grand Forks Parks & Recreation Foundation

The Grand Forks Parks & Recreation Foundation offers scholarships for low-income youth so they can join all of the organization’s sports programs – baseball, softball, hockey, golf, swim passes, etc. – to promote healthy lifestyles and activities.

Each year we are thrilled to encourage the health and fitness of Special Olympics athletes and partners that participate in the Grand Forks Marathon weekend races. We are happy to support the members of this organization by providing complimentary entries to a race of their choosing.

By participating in the Grand Forks Marathon Weekend, you not only strengthen yourself but also take an active part in connecting with the community – go you! Get started by registering for your race today.
